Course Delivery

An extensive range of courses are offered within the MPH and MPH (Advanced) programs and, although some courses offer flexible delivery as intensives or online, they are not designed as distance-mode programs. The majority of courses are held on the Acton campus, approximately 3km from the Canberra central business district.

Some courses are taught intensively over periods of three to five days. The timetabling of these courses is specifically-designed to accommodate students who have full-time work commitments, who need to travel from interstate or who need to study part-time. Intensives are held in Canberra at the ANU campus. Attendance at all sessions of the intensive is compulsory.

Some courses are offered entirely online and some courses are offered in a blended mode, requiring a mix of face-to-face attendance and online study.

Students are not required to complete the compulsory courses in the first semester of enrolment; they may be taken anytime.

Not all of the recommended elective courses are offered each year, some are offered every alternate year or otherwise.

Session dates

Courses are conducted in the following sessions:

First half of year
Semester 1 (Feb-June)
Summer Term (Jan-Mar)
Autumn Term (Apr-June)

           Second half of year
           Semester 2 (July-Nov)
           Winter Term (July-Sept)
           Spring Term (Oct-Dec)

Workload

A typical 6 unit course will have ~3 contact hours per week. In addition to attending classes, it is anticipated that students will spend additional time on pre-reading, self-directed study and completing assessment requirements so that the total workload should average ~10 hrs per week (including contact hours).
