Good news

Liana and Lyndall hosted the forum ‘Why Fathers’ Care Matters: Enabling Gender Equity in Care and Work’ at University House, The ANU, on the 9th August. The forum was sponsored by the Gender Institute and The Judith Lumley Centre at La Trobe University, and included representatives from the public, state and federal government departments and policy organisations (e.g. DSS, Transport, Health, Workplace Gender Equity Agency), employers and corporate organisations (e.g. Deloitte and Westpac).

Tehzeeb won a student scholarship from Australasian Epidemiological Association (AEA) to attend the AEA conference in October 2018.

Jodie Leu attended the Education Research Forum on Friday 3 August.

Jodie Leu hosted an interactive hands-on workshop on qualitative method application with Graeme Read from The Australian Centre on China in the World at the Curious Feast (Aug 10), an event to start the National Science Week 2018.

Ruth Kharis attended the ANU Fast track the impact of your research workshop by Prof Mark Reed from the School of Natural and Environmental Sciences, Newcastle University 10 August.

Cathy spent an interesting 8 days in Katherine with Tambri and Liz conducting focus group discussions for the PFAS study. 

Cathy gave two interviews to local radio stations concerning the submission to the Senate Select Committee on the Obesity Epidemic in Australia.  They were particularly interested in the potential link between long and unsociable hours and health maintenance.   She declined an invitation to present at the standing committee as it was in Melbourne.

Tehzeeb presented her paper “BMI trajectories and risk factors in 2-11 year old Australian children by immigrant status” in a seminar organised by ACT health Chronic disease management program at The Canberra Hospital, on 31st August 2018.

Sarma attended the 16th Asia Pacific Congress of Pediatrics (APCP) in Bali, Indonesia and was involved in five presentations during the proceedings.
