Biography

I am a molecular geneticist, with experience in a range of fields from human genetics to bacterial genomics. I conducted my PhD in cancer genetics, studying molecular pathways involved in prostate and penile oncogenesis. Following the completion of the PhD in 2008, I moved to Australia taking up a post-doctoral position with the Menzies School of Health Research in Darwin, where I switched fields to infectious diseases. Since then I have been working with bacterial genomics, antibiotic resistance markers and molecular genetic assay development, predominantly focussed on Chlamydia trachomatis, Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae.

I believe the MAE program will provide a good opportunity to gain solid epidemiological and biostatistical skills, and enable a transition from laboratory-based basic science into a field where the work has a more immediate health impact on people. I have a particular interest in applying genomics to inform epidemiological studies and disease control activities.
