Before joining in ANU, Mofi Islam worked as a Research and Education officer in the University of Sydney. As part of his PhD research he investigated clients’ characteristics, service utilisation and incremental cost of targeted primary healthcare for injecting drug users. He also worked in a number of NHMRC funded research projects including Hepatitis B Vaccine Incentive Trial in Injecting Drug Users (HAVIT). Holding a position of a Senior Assistant Chief (Planning and Development) of the Government of Bangladesh he was actively involved in health service planning in Bangladesh.
