Clostridium difficile: Assessing the risks to Australia

C. difficile ribotype 027 is of great concern, the imminent threat of this organism to Australia’s biosecurity and patient safety creates an imperative to understand the epidemiology of C. difficile and assess the risk of outbreaks of severe C. difficile disease in Australia.

This project will use data collected prospectively over three years (1200+ patients) to determine the C. difficile ribotypes associated with hospital and community-acquired C. difficile infection as well as asymptomatic carriers in Brisbane and Perth.
