Efficiency, accountability, and cost analysis of mental health care

Decision-makers in health policy demand knowledge on efficiency, effectiveness and equality of health care. Taking into account the increasing prevalence of mental disorders and the involved amount of public resources, the knowledge of mental health care systems is crucial for policy and planning. This project aims to:

  • study the relative technical efficiency of mental health areas based on the inputs available, such as the availability of funding, care, placement and professional, and outputs produced, such as service utilization figures, in order to assess and compare their performance,
  • analyze the accountability in mental health care on social, health and system indicators in order to reduce variation in care and increase effective service provision, and
  • carry out cost analysis of health interventions and drug treatments in mental health care in order to support decision-makers in the selection of the most cost-effective alternatives.
