Empowering reproductive decisions and services through community engagement (Sierra Leone)

Reproductive decisions

Maternal mortality is highest in humanitarian crises yet high-quality evidence of effective models of care addressing the unique challenges of these settings is lacking. Co-designed programs could be an effective strategy to address reproductive health services for the community. In particular, for adolescent girls who generally have a higher risk of unwanted pregnancy and associated injuries.

To improve reproductive health services in humanitarian settings, we will co-design a comprehensive package of reproductive health services with adolescents, community leaders, and MSF. Using a monitoring and evaluation model, we will adapt and refine this package to generate the evidence that leads to effective models of care. Our goal is to develop a framework to support participatory engagement with adolescents and the larger community. Partnering with them will ensure their knowledge and experiences are core components of a co-designed program addressing adolescent sexual reproductive health.
