Raising consumer voices in Australian primary health care research

A recent stocktake of primary care research in Australia indicated little consumer involvement at all points in the research and research translation process. This study audited APCHRI funded research to examine the experiences of Australian primary health care researchers with the involvement of non-researchers (consumers, practitioners, policy advisers etc) in the research process. A flexible framework and strategy for consumer and other stakeholder involvement in primary care research in Australia is now under development. Future directions include development of a framework for evaluating consumer involvement.
