February news about Infectious Disease Epidemiology and Modelling

8 February 2018

Tambri-Anne Housen has had an abstract titled: “Antibiotic Resistance (ABR) in Neonates with Suspected Sepsis admitted to a Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) supported Medium Care Unit in Quetta, Pakistan. 2018” accepted at the 18th Congress on Infectious Diseases in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Nanna Munck, a PhD student at the Technical University of Denmark, is currently visiting our group for three months.   Nanna’s is visiting us to conduct source attribution of Salmonella associated with nuts in Queensland.   Nanna visited Queensland in December to get a better understanding of macadamia nut farms, and is now developing a model to explore sources responsible for contamination of nuts.

In December, Katie Glass attended a forum of chicken meat producers to discuss our Campylobacter project.   It was a good opportunity to share our progress on the project and to learn about recent trends in control of foodborne bacteria by the chicken meat industry.

Many of our group are busy with NHMRC and ARC grant applications – best of luck to all involved!
