MAE Scholar, Dr Anthea Katelaris, selected to present at the EIS Conference in Atlanta

3 July 2019

Dr Anthea Katelaris is a second year Masters of Philosophy in Applied Epidemiology (MAE) scholar at NCEPH. Her field placement is at Health Protection NSW, where she works across communicable diseases and environmental health issues.

Anthea was selected to present at the 2019 Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) International Night at the 68th Annual EIS Conference in Atlanta, USA. Co-organised by TEPHINET and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) each year, FETP International Night highlights the work of Field Epidemiology Training Program fellows from around the world.

Anthea was one of only seven people selected to give an oral presentation. Her presentation was titled ‘Investigation and Response to Australia’s Largest Outbreak of Leptospirosis – New South Wales, Australia, 2018’.

Anthea says that attending the conference provided a fantastic opportunity to connect with other field epidemiology trainees and staff from the US and around the world.

“It was inspiring to learn about the breadth and depth of work that field epidemiology trainees are involved in, and how this can contribute to improving health worldwide. I would strongly recommend future MAE Scholars attend this thought-provoking conference.”

Anthea was supported by TEPHINET to attend the conference.
