Biography

Puthik is a 2022-2023 scholar of the ASEAN-Australia Health Security Fellowships in the Master of Philosophy in Applied Epidemiology and is currently based in the field placement of the National Institute of Public Health, Ministry of Health.

He holds a bachelor's degree in pharmacy, graduated from Vietnam, and holds a master of science in healthcare administration from Nagoya University, Japan. In addition, he was also a graduate of the intermediate Field Epidemiology Training Program in Cambodia.

His current profession is the officer of the surveillance unit in the department of communicable diseases control of the Cambodian Ministry of Health, and he has full experience of outbreak investigations such as influenza-like illness(1), foodborne outbreaks (methanol poisoning, food contaminated outbreak during wedding ceremony, measles outbreak, COVID-19(2), etc.(3)). Moreover, he had WHO working experience as a short-term consultant supporting surveillance and local preparedness during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Research interests

  • Surveillance systems of infectious diseases, e.g. avian influenza, community-based surveillance for infectious diseases, mortality surveillance.
  • Outbreak response such as investigation, contact tracing, risk assessment.
