Miss Sonali Varma

Biography

Sonali has a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science with majors in Psychology and Biochemistry. A passionate undergraduate researcher, Sonali sits as the Vice Head of the student committee for the Australasian Council for Undergraduate Research, having completed research projects in the fields of neuropsychology, physiology, and medical science. Beyond this, Sonali has worked as a laboratory assistant at ANU’s Research School of Biology and a research intern at the Canberra Hospital. She also works with the ACT’s Child and Youth Mental Health Alliance youth reference group, collaborating with other young people to guide mental health research and initiatives.

Combining her interests and advocacy in the mental health space, Sonali is currently completing Honours at the Centre for Mental Health Research, where she is examining self-recognition of mental health symptoms and help seeking behaviour. She hopes to contribute impactful research to improve mental health literacy and improve service utilisation. Sonali is excited to be under the guidance and supervision of Professor Phil Batterham and looks forward to improving her data science skills.
