Find more information about our professional short courses.

Who are the short courses for?

Our short courses are ideally suited to those working in population health, medicine or related areas. They are suitable both for those who have no previous formal training or for those who would like to refresh their understanding. This could include:

  • government and non-government policy-makers and advisors
  • public health practitioners working in the field, including clinicians and other health workers
  • people who require an understanding of public health concepts in their work
  • people considering postgraduate studies in the public health area.

How much do the short courses cost?

Four day courses cost $2250 (early bird rate: 4 weeks before course start date) or $2400 per participant, including GST.

Full-time students (domestic or international) are eligible for a reduced rate of $2025 (early bird rate: 4 weeks before course start date) or $2160 per participant.

Fees include course materials, lunch, morning and afternoon tea.

A limit to the number of participants applies to all courses on a first-to-register basis. Your payment is fully refundable in the event your chosen course is full.

How do I register and pay?

To confirm your place, register online via our website. Payment by Visa or MasterCard is required at the time of registration. ANU does not apply any surcharge to credit card users. Please have your credit card ready before proceeding. Your registration and payment will be confirmed by email. Unfortunately, places cannot be reserved.

Important: The University's central finance system only accepts online payment by Visa or MasterCard; therefore, it is not possible to invoice your workplace for payment of fees. Sorry, no exceptions. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Registrations for all courses close 10 calendar days before the course start date. If your chosen course is full, please contact us by email and we will let you know of any cancellations. Late applications may be considered.

Where can I park?

4-day scratchie parking permits are available at a total cost of $20. Please choose the 'Plus parking' option when paying for your course. ANU scratchie parking permits allow you to park anywhere that is listed as ‘general permit’ OR ‘staff permit’ as shown on the ANU Parking & Transport map. Parking on campus is very limited, so we strongly advise you to make alternative arrangements where possible.

What accommodation is available?

The ANU is in Acton, approximately 3km from Canberra central business district. Visit the ANU accommodation pages for more information.

What is the daily schedule?

All courses begin at 9am and finish no later than 5pm. There is an hour for lunch and short breaks during the morning and afternoon. Upon arrival on the first day, please collect your name tag and course materials from the registration desk before being shown to the seminar room.

Can I use the short course as credit towards a degree at ANU?

Short course participants must prepare for, attend and participate in intensive classes; however, they do not complete any of the assessment items and will not receive a formal grade for the course. A Certificate of Attendance will be provided, but it is not possible to use the attendance at the course towards a degree program at ANU or any other university. If you wish to gain status (credit) for the course you must apply as a non-award student or for the degree program; learn how to apply for non-award enrolment.
